Book Review: The Secret History of the World, by Mark Booth
This book is well worth the read for anyone seriously interested in the history of ideas. Unlike most authors writing about "secret societies", Mark Booth is not into paranoia and negativity. He is an intelligent researcher who have a genuine love of the topic. Most of his material is from the Rosicrucian tradition. If you are well educated in Old Testament, Plato, Mythology, or some other esoteric tradition, you should be able to take what he is saying and relate it to what you know, and maybe even gain some new insights.
Karl Marx traced history by looking at Man as a purely economic creature. Writers who tackle the bigger questions about human origin and purpose are often tempted to reduce humanity to a single thread, such as economics, or sex, or biology. There are multiple threads in human history. Mark Booth traces the thread of a particular idea about the purpose and function of Man: man&woman as beings of very high, very noble origin, with a design capable of staying animal-like, and also capable of returning to our more divine origins.
