The Plague, by Albert Camus, book review
The Plague, by Albert Camus, 1947. I am listening to on Audible
I asked myself, why is NO ONE talking about Camus' book? He is a celebrated writer/philosopher, wouldn't it be good to see what he has to say about our current conditions? In Camus' story, the Bubonic plague strikes a city in Northern Africa, the city closes its gates ( it is a walled city, as many cities are in the "old world" ), and we follow the course of the plague.
I did not like the book. If this is representative of his writings, then I do not like Camus.
I found one scene compelling and apropos. There was ONE SCENE about masks, ran like,
"Here, put on this mask"
"Does this actually do any good?"
"No, but it inspires confidence in others."
As they spoke, the cloth mask around the mouth grew moist around the lips. The mask gave a certain unreality to the conversation, like a colloquy of statues.
